I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have produced Smoke City Scandal, a short TV mini-series that has been by far the most challenging and rewarding project I’ve worked on to date. I had the privilege of co-producing this production alongside my great friend and collaborator, Louise Wallace.

This project was part of a module at MetFilm School, where Louise and I pitched ourselves as producers and were selected to lead the production. From February through March of this year, we spent six intense weeks in pre-production. Besides handling all the other logistical responsibilities a producer must manage, we also took on additional tasks. During that time, we were responsible for scheduling classes for our crew, organizing and leading daily meetings, and ensuring clear communication across all departments. We also went through the process of location scouting and held regular check-ins with the team to keep every stage of production on track.

Reflection
With over 30 crew members involved, the biggest challenge we faced was managing the rotating team, where each episode had a different crew, which meant we always had to adapt quickly and maintain organisation. It was a challenge to maintain clear communication between departments, and this experience showed me that, as a producer, you must be firm in defining boundaries. I had to become more assertive than I already was, which turned out to be a valuable skill to develop. It tested our leadership skills in ways we hadn’t experienced before, but it also taught us so much.
Looking back, I’m proud of what we accomplished and grateful for the opportunity to bring Smoke City Scandal to life. I’ve grown immensely as a producer and can’t wait to take what I’ve learned into future projects!
